Lola and the Boy Next Door
by Stephanie Perkins
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion... she believes in costume. The more expressive
the outfit – the more sparkly, more wild – the better. And life is pretty close to perfect for Lola, especially with her hot rocker boyfriend. That is, until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket return to the neighbourhood and unearth a past of hurt that Lola thought was long buried. So when talented inventor Cricket steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally face up to a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door. Could the boy from Lola's past be the love of her future?
Fall in love with the international bestseller from queen of young adult fiction, Stephanie Perkins
this book i must say was much much better than anna and the french kiss like you know it made me feel i cared so much about the characters and especially cricket because he was just so sweet and adorable and all the things that i love and honestly i'm not going to lie here i want a boyfriend like cricket like he cared so much for lola and just his personality was so great and ok i was sold when i read that he was the great great great grandson of alexander graham bell because well alexander graham bell! but his personality was so sweet and good that i couldn't help but love.
coming to lola she was also a very strong character like she wore unique dresses and what not and showed herself and her interests to everyone and that was really great i also loved her dads like not onlt it gave a representation but the way they raised her was just so great and thir characters were like so awesome they cared for lola and they actually set lola and cricket up and that was just so so good but i have to say that i didn't loathe lola's (now-ex)boyfriend like sure he wasn't the best but that guy went through those daily brunches for lola but still i did not like him because first he was coming in between my ship(duh!) and second he came out to be an utter douchebag in the end.
also those little small snippets of conversation between lola, anna, st.clair and cricket made me so giddy and at one point when st.clair was giving advice to lola i was like'do you remember how your love story was?'
but this book was really great like i was so much into it that when lola did something stupid i'd just put the book down and think 'did she really do that?'
other than that this book also gives a strong message that it doesn't matter who your parents are or what they have done its you that matters.
any how this was much better than the last one and i don't think you need to read the first book for this book but then it wouldn't make you as giddy so you should probably read that too.
BOOK QUOTES:-
“I know you aren't perfect. But it's a person's imperfections that make them perfect for someone else.”
“Once upon a time, there was a girl who talked to the moon. And she was mysterious and she was perfect, in that way that girls who talk to moons are. In the house next door, there lived a boy. And the boy watched the girl grow more and more perfect, more and more beautiful with each passing year. He watched her watch the moon. And he began to wonder if the moon would help him unravel the mystery of the beautiful girl. So the boy looked into the sky. But he couldn't concentrate on the moon. He was too distracted by the stars. And it didn't matter how many songs or poems had already been written about them, because whenever he thought about the girl, the stars shone brighter. As if she were the one keeping them illuminated.
One day, the boy had to move away. He couldn't bring the girl with him, so he brought the stars. When he'd look out his window at night, he would start with one. One star. And the boy would make a wish on it, and the wish would be her name.
At the sound of her name, a second star would appear. And then he'd wish her name again, and the stars would double into four. And four became eight, and eight became sixteen, and so on, in the greatest mathematical equation the universe had ever seen. And by the time an hour had passed, the sky would be filled with so many stars that it would wake the neighbors. People wondered who'd turned on the floodlights.
The boy did. By thinking about the girl.”
