The Alchemists of Loom
by Elise Kova
Her vengeance. His vision.
Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.
Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.
When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.
He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.

i feel like this was a solid start to a series and this was good like real good but first up i would like to say this to you if you are reading this book then don't start it like you start other books because then you would feel lost and you'll just think what the heck is this world i'm not saying that the world building was crap it was amazing and you kind of find your way through it but its better to know about it before you go into this book so you should start it with the world of loom which is at the end and then start the book . |
so first up the world there are like two worlds loom and nova which are separated by clouds loom is like our part of the world where fenthri live which is the first race and they invent things and the second race that lives here is chimera who are basically dragon fenthri hybrid and have some powers of dragons loom is divided into five guilds i.e. harvesters, ravens, rivets, revolvers and alchemists and people are divided into these guilds by birth and if someone is not good at a particular thing in that guild then they die or are locked up i don't remember because i suck at memorising but that person could be good at some other thing and that wouldn't matter yeah crappy world now that being said the other part of this world is nova where dragons who have all sorts of cool power and colorful skin there are three dragon house rok which is the house of the king tam second most powerful house and xin which is the weakest house and years ago the dragons captured loom.that's all that i do remember for more you have to check the book about but let me tell you this world is real unique and ireally want to see more of it lets talk about the characters there are four main pov's and one pov that is basically for two times? so our first main character is Ari a.k.a the white wraith and let me tell you she is a super badass character and she is just so so capable and smart and intelligent and everything that i like in the beginning she is like stealing from a fortress from which no one can steal and that was so so cool also she hates dragon for her own reasons and would do anything to hurt them she is a chimera an d she hates dragon and she is in a black market and trades dragon organs and is super good at making machines and even the dragons know of her because she's so dang good at her job. our second main pov is cvareh who is a dragon from xin family he is super sweet and loyal to his sister and he will do anything to get the king off the throne so he gets to loom and wants to go to the alchemist guild where a rebellion has been brewing and he wants there help and that's where he meets ari and asks her to take him to the guild aaaand here comes my ship they are just so good together they keep on fighting with each other ari always has a knife at his throat but they both open each other eyes like cvareh shows ari that not all the dragons are bad and ari shows him that fenthri and chimera are as much capable as dragons and just they are socute and adorable together. our third main pov is florence and she is just so sweet she literally gives cvareh a cookie when he comes to her home and she is like super talented at making guns and explosives and just i like her our fourth main pov is leona who is also a dragon but the bad one she is blindly loyal to the king and would do and give anything to please him and she's bad guys i hated her and the much i see of king he's not that good either but we'll see all in all this was a great read the characters were adorable and the world was super unique and epic and lets just say the book ended on a cliffhangar and i really want to read the second book which will come out in april highly recommend it to all fantasy lovers! Book quotes:- “Numbers remained consistent. Numbers and facts attempted to bring order from a chaotic world, to make sense of the impossible. They were the foundation for colossal structures and the tiniest of clockwork machines alike. Ari loved numbers, and not just because they saved her life by keeping her alert in her surroundings.” “Progress was never meant to be stinted, and even failures weren’t to be destroyed.”
