SHADES OF MAGIC BOOK #1

A Darker Shade of Magic

by
A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1)magicians with a rare ability to travel between parallel Londons. There’s Grey London, dirty and crowded and without magic, home to the mad king George III. There’s Red London, where life and magic are revered. Then, White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. But once upon a time, there was Black London...

IN VICTORIA'S WORDS
I wrote this book, so I'm probably biased. Since it's early, and the full jacket copy isn't out, here's a list of things in ADSOM:

–Magic

–Cross-dressing thieves

–(Aspiring) pirates

–Londons (plural)

–Sadistic kings (and queens)

–A royal who is equal parts Prince Harry and Jack Harkness

–More magic (blood magic, elemental magic, bad magic, etc. etc.)

–Epic magicky fights scenes

–Angst!

–And coats with more than two sides

NOW YOU KNOW WHY I LOVE THIS AUTHOR

THIS MIGHT CONTAIN MILD SPOILERS I'VE TRIED TO KEEP IT AT MINIMUM
this was so so so amazing i mean it was just so magical i mean you guys already know how much i loved this savage song but this book it was so awesome like victoria has a way with words trust me guys

so coming to the characters our first main character is kell who is this magical being called antari and he is like super rare in his world because there was this kind of dark magic that was kind of a plague to this kingdom and obviously people started killing the ones who they thought was responsible for it so in this chaos almost a generation of antari died and so kell is pretty much the only one left along with another guy whose name i don't remember i know guys i am horrible.so kell as he is an antari he is often feared by most of the people even though he is likethe sweetest guy ever when he was born he was adopted by the king and queen and he felt like he didn't belong anywhere he always thought that he was a weapon to wield.

but my favorite character was lila like she was so sassy and hilarious and not to mention completely badass like she didn't have blood magic or anything but this girl had skills guys she used weapons like a professional you do anything wrong and she will slit your throat without a blink and also she is like super clever because being an antari wanted to get close to that black stone but even though she wanted to use the magic she knew it was clever it showed you its shiny side she knew that it fed on her energy nd would corrupt her so as a result she stayed away from it and damn me if i didn't like her for that not to mention she saved kell's life a hundred times granted he also saved her life but isn't that what people do?

the book became a lot more intersting when these two worked together like they fought with each other all the time not to mention they met because lila stole that stone from kell yeah.. but they make a kickass team and you know where i am going i ship them

coming to the world here's how you sum it all up
"There's Dull London, Kell London, Creepy London, and Dead London."
yep dull london is fom where lila is they have no magic at all remember when i said there was a plague kind of thing? well it had something to do with magic overpowering humanity and people basically bacame conduits but in grey london humanity overpowered magic and people lost all their magic.

kell london is where kell lives and its thriving magic .magic there is used for good and its basically the glittery london.

creepy london is the london which was very close to where the plague broke out aka the dead london so naturally they got affected the most it basically turned into an isis den where people can do anything for survival and there rulers are cold blooded killers they literally kill each other to get to the throne

and the dead london its basically the dead one its where the plague hit magic overpowered humanity people turned into conduits and basically all spooky things before this any one could cross between these londons but now the gates are closed and only antari can travel between these worlds so that explains why they are super rare and super important

in my opinion these londons are just like parallel universes i mean they are basically alternate dimensions but they are all london what has kept me intrigued is what happened to the dead london imean i know it got destroyed but what of other countries like there couldn't just be alternate londons right?

all in all this was a great fun read it made laugh out loud at so many points and the plot is so great and let me tell victoria has done such an amazing job in the world building the characters are super fun and highly adorable highly recommend to all fantasy lovers
